St John offers two options for gaining this unit of competency:

2 Day Course | 1 Day Course with Flexible Learning


2 Day Course

Course Outcome: The course provides an excellent general grounding in first aid and will enable you to perform appropriate first aid procedures and basic life support skills.

Cost: $175 inc gst | Concession (students, pensioners & unemployed) $135 inc gst

Who should attend: This is a general course that would benefit all those at work, home or for leisure. This unit satisfies training requirements across a range of community and workplace settings.

Delivery Mode: Face-to-face

Pre-requisite: There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Dates:

  • Not available at Donnybrook Sub Centre.  Please see venues below.

Estimated Duration: 2 Days - Time: 8.30am - 4.00pm

Other Venues:

Dress Code: Due to the nature of practical exercises skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate.

Meals: At St John venues coffee and tea are provided. A 30 minute lunch break will be taken at sometime between 12:00 midday – 1:30pm. Lunch is not provided, however a fridge and microwave oven are available for student use.

You Should Bring: Photo ID, notebook, pen/pencil.

Learning Resources & Equipment:

  • St John will provide training and assessment equipment during the course
  • Learner Guide is provided

Assessment:

  • Written Questionnaire (multiple choice questions)
  • Skills Assessment (observation of demonstrations)

Support Services:

  • Pre-enrolment information

  • Skills practice and assessment scenario to suit participant needs
  • Consultation with Trainer and Assessor
  • Reasonable adjustment in assessment
  • Limited Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support

  • DRSABCD St John Action Plan
  • Hazard and risk assessment and strategies to minimise risks
  • Principles of first aid and chain of survival
  • Basic anatomy and physiology considerations in the provision of first aid
  • CPR: 2 minutes of uninterrupted Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on the floor - adult & infant
  • Legal, workplace and community considerations
  • Infection control
  • Effective communication in an incident
  • Risk assessment and evaluation of first aid performance

Certification: A statement of attainment is issued to successful participants

Skills Currency: St John Ambulance recommends that you refresh your first aid training every 12 months. This is also in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines that state CPR skills should be refreshed annually.


1 Day Course with Flexible Learning

When you book into the course you will receive via your confirmation letter an e-Learning link to complete prior to attending the class or alternatively if you do not have internet access you are able to receive a Learners Guide and questionnaire, also to be completed prior and submitted on the day.

Cost: $160 per person | Concession (students, pensioners & unemployed) $130 inc gst

Who Should Attend:

  • Anyone wanting to learn essential first aid skills at a time and pace that suits you
  • Those wanting a first aid certificate for work purposes

  • Self-paced learning prior to attending the course
